Grade: C7 Fine to Very Fine. Rolled, single-sided. Theater-used poster with minimal handling/surface/edge wear. Would grade much higher if not for a few light moisture stains, and tape residue in each corner from when it was originally displayed. The poster is in remarkable condition given its age and rarity.

3 Days of Peace & Music
Unbelievably rare test print poster on thicker paper stock than the finished poster, which was commercially offset printed in NYC. This was likely a small batch test print while compositing and event details were still being finalized. Some key differences from the finished posters: This poster was printed before the venue details were finalized so the sections with subtitles ART SHOW, CRAFTS BAZAAR, and HUNDREDS OF ACRES TO ROAM ON are all blank. This test print lacks finalized ticket pricing details and the mailing address for acquiring tickets in New York City. The hand playing the guitar is printed in yellow, unlike the more peach-toned hand in the final design. The red background was cropped down significantly in the final design, giving this test print a much more open feel with more red negative space. Finally, the test poster lacks Skolnick’s printed signature in the plate below the 3 Days of Peace & Music title graphic.
I have found only two other examples of this test print. The first example appears in the Getty Photography archives dated 1969 (https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/promotional-poster-for-the-1969-woodstock-music-and-arts-news-photo/3207805) and was widely used in news articles announcing Skolnick’s death in 2022. The only other example is a badly faded, water stained test print sold by Heritage Auctions in 2014 (https://entertainment.ha.com/itm/music-memorabilia/posters/woodstock-festival-unique-prototype-poster-1969-/a/7089-46638.s). The rarity of this test print for one of the most iconic posters of all time cannot be understated.
