Nearly all country-of-origin material for Tarkovsky films is scarce, and this Swedish 1-sheet for Offret is no exception. Tarkovsky’s relationship with Mosfilm and the Soviet government (who heavily censored much of his earlier work) had already soured — thus it was while preparing to make The Sacrifice in Sweden he publicly stated that he would never return to his home country again. Offret won the Grand Prix and was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the 1986 Cannes Film Festival, but sadly Tarkovsky had fallen ill with lung cancer and could not attend — he would pass away only months later, may say due to being poisoned by the KGB.
