Grade: C5 Very Good to Fine. Rolled, single-sided. Prior to linen backing the poster had handling wear, edge tears, small bits of missing paper, water staining, and mold. As is common for pre-war Japanese posters, the top edge was glued around a small wood strip for hanging. During restoration the wood strip was removed exposing the top edge of poster which was originally not square. Please see full size image illustrating the uneven edge. The top can be trimmed square if desired without affecting the art. Expert restoration has addressed all of these flaws and the poster now appears very fine to near mint.
Framing: List prices are for posters only. Please inquire to discuss framing options.
While often overshadowed by Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton was also one of the greatest comedic talents in the history of film. This playful poster evokes a similar style and artistry to the US posters for Keaton’s films — which themselves are very reminiscent of Al Hirschfeld’s caricature work from the same time period. Don’t miss this extremely rare poster, one of the few surviving artworks from Parlor, Bedroom, and Bath; one of Keaton’s earliest talkies!
