Jigoku is one of the most influential of all Japanese horror films. While other directors of the era were still creating more traditional “ghostly” horror films (some of the best examples are Kwaidan and Onibaba), Nobuo Nakagawa was busy pushing the boundaries of taste and gore. Made on a shoestring budget and released to little fan fare — Jigoku has grown to cult status over the years and has been remade several times. Any original release material is extremely rare and Marquee Poster is lucky enough to have acquired both style B2 posters. This movie was released in major Japanese markets under the title 地獄 (Hell) and as it made it’s way to smaller markets it was also promoted under the title 八大地獄 幽霊物語 (rough translation, 8 Hell Ghost Story).
