Grade: C5 Very Good to Fine. Folded, single-sided. Handling and edge wear, a few deep creases in the image, several large tears along the top edge repaired with tape on the verso. If restored, this poster will look amazing.
This poster boldly proclaims “Советской науке–слава! Слава советского человека–первый космонавт!”, which roughly translates to “Soviet Science – Thanks! Glory to the Soviet people – The First Cosmonaut!” This is one of the earliest posters to celebrate the first manned journey into space on April 12, 1961 by Yuri Gagarin. Volekov depicts a heroic Gagarin holding one of the red metal pennants delivered to the moon in 1959 aboard the Lunik 2 — the first man-made object to land on another celestial body.
