Banksy is a London-based street artist who was one of the first graffiti artists to gain wider recognition from the art world. His work was highly subversive and satirical, and as street art was meant to stick a thumb in the eye of the perceived exclusivity of the world of art collectors and dealers. Apparently they missed and point and started ripping walls off of the buildings he tagged to sell at auction! Exit Through the Gift Shop, with it’s faux-tagonist Mr. Brainwash, was his critique of that insular and narcissistic world. Given the popularity of the film and skyrocketing value of Mr. Brainwash’s “art” that is now for sale, they may still be missing the point 🙂 Don’t miss this rare, country-of-origin teaser poster for this cult masterpiece.
