Blood Simple is the incredible first film from the Coen brothers. Interesting story… Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead was edited by Edna Paul, whose assistant was none other than Joel Coen of the Coen brothers. After working on the film, Joel (and his brother Ethan) were so impressed by Sam Rainey’s ability to make the Evil Dead on such a minuscule budget that they followed the same model for Blood Simple and became friends with Raimi in the process. Blood simple is a wonderful little thriller that is so terrifying that it almost borders on straight horror–anyone who has seen the final act will know what I’m talking about!
If you were to pick one poster to collect from this incredible film, this original release 1-sheet would be it! The red heals and gun hints at the noir elements and the pink neon border give a great early 80s vibe. A rare and sought after gem.
