Howard Hawks was in top form for this screwball comedy which saw worlds collide between a language specialist professor, a nightclub singer as well as her mobster boyfriend. Hilarity of course ensues. Interestingly, the script was penned by Billy Wilder and was based in part on the fairy tale, Snow White (with the group of professors led by Cooper as the dwarfs). And even though Wilder knew Ball of Fire was being directed by the Howard Hawks, he was growing tired of unapproved changes to his scripts by the studios and other directors. When Wilder told Hawks this, he happily let Wilder study his directing on the set. From then on Wilder directed all his own films!
This British door panel boasts impressive full-length images of Cooper and Stanwyck. The poster had two tears that extend from the top border about halfway down the poster in the background before being professionally restored.
