Dario Argento’s Suspiria has come to define “giallo”, the typically graphic and ultra-violent sub-genre of horror unique to Italy. The term “giallo” actually comes from a series of trashy Italian mystery novels from the 1920s and 1930s, which supernatural horror, crime fiction, and slasher elements. The name also refers to the pulp novels themselves, as they were often issued with yellow covers — giallo is Italian for “yellow”.

Large posters are some of the rarest in Japan — space is at a premium and historically Japanese collectors have preferred B2s or B5 chirashi for their convenience of storage and display. This has resulted in B1s, and even more so B0s, being some of the most scarce sizes. The Suspira B0 here is no exception. It shares the design of the unique Japanese design of the B2, but at a MUCH more impactful size. The full bleed printing and black background nicely set off a green-tinted portrait of the heroine, Jessica Harper, and an inset of the haunting, macabre art from Mario De Berardinis — sadly De Berardinis’ final cinema poster before having a heart attack at only 47 years of age.
